CHEMICAL SCIENCE


The Level 5  Higher Nationals Diploma (HND) is a two year course. During your first year you will study a Level 4 Higher Nationals Certificate (HNC). Upon successful completion of the first year, you will progress onto the second year to study the Level 5 HND which will then enable you to progress onto Level 6 Degree Top-Up programme in UK.

The Higher National Diploma in Chemical Science is a Level 4 and Level 5 qualification made up of 240 credits. It is studied full-time for over a period of two years. An HND student is expected to have achieved at least 90 credits at Level 4 before progressing to Level 5 units. During the course, students will develop the knowledge and academic studies skills required for University or employment, which includes active research and writing skills, analytical skills, critical skills, problem-solving and team-building.

All Level 5 Higher National Diploma develop a sound understanding of the principles in their field of study and learn to apply those principles more widely. Students will learn to evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to solving problems and will be able to perform effectively in the chosen field. They will also learn the qualities necessary for employment in situations requiring the exercise of personal responsibility and decision-making.his is a wide-ranging course covering the theoretical and practical aspects of modern sciences. You will specialise in one of the major branches of science – chemistry.

Develop a range of skills in Chemical Science?

Prime College offers highly regarded training in both theoretical and practical chemistry. You’ll develop an advanced scientific understanding of the physical and chemical properties of matter, including the nature of atoms and molecules, their structure and composition, their reactions and the ways they are used in products and materials.

In your first year you’ll study the fundamentals of organic and inorganic chemistry, spectroscopy and states of matter. Later you’ll study physical and quantum chemistry, computational chemistry and organic synthesis.

Chemistry is a practical subject and you’ll develop advanced skills through frequent lab work. During your final year you’ll conduct your own research project, either laboratory- or literature-based.

Choose your own pathway through this degree — add a year in industry or studying abroad, or carry out an additional year of advanced study to graduate with a level 6 degree. 

Curriculum

Higher National Diploma in Chemical Science

The Level 5 HND in Chemical Science requires two years’ study with the College. Throughout the course, you will be required to complete 15 core, optional and specialised modules (eight in year 1 and seven in year 2).

To achieve the qualification, a student must have completed units equivalent to 120 credits at level 4 and 120 credits at level 5 and scored at least a pass in 105 credits at level 4 and 105 credits at level 5, amounting to 210 + credits.

Undergraduate Courses

Undergraduate Courses (Level 4/5/6)

Level 4 courses come in the form of 1st year of a bachelors programme or HNC (Higher National Certificate). Depending on the Type of associate degree a student may be able to start their 2nd year of bachelors (The course must be the same as the one they are applying for)

Level 5 courses come in the form of 2nd year of a bachelors programmes or a HND (Higher National Diploma). Depending on the Type of associate degree a student may be able to start their 3rd year of bachelors (The course must be the same as the one they are applying for)

Level 6 courses are the final component in a bachelor’s degree.

Graduate Course (Level 6)

Students who successfully completed Higher National Diploma in Business qualification can progress onto Degree Top-Up programme, Level 6 courses the final component in a bachelor’s degree at many Universities such as University of Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire New University, Teesside University, University of Sunderland, Buckinghamshire New University, University of Huddersfield, London Metropolitan University, Oxford Brookes University, University of Gloucestershire, University of Worcester, University of South Wales, Cambridge University, etc.
